WHAT IS DRAM SHOP LAW?
Dram Shop Law focuses on the liability of corporations and individuals who serve alcohol for profit in an illegal or irresponsible manner. Our society still has a huge problem with drunk driving. According to the National Transportation Safety Administration, 32 Americans die every day due to drunk driving. That’s one person dying every 45 minutes.* According to the Texas A&M Traffic Institute, Texas has one of the highest percentages in the country of fatal crashes caused by alcohol. While the national average is 28%, in Texas, it is an astounding 34%.* This is no longer acceptable.
Many bars place profits above safety. The Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission teaches safe service of alcohol. When corporations and trained servers ignore this training, tragic results occur. Death, paralysis, and brain injury often occur. If you, a family member or friend have suffered due to drunk driving, I sue bars. Whether an innocent driver, passenger, pedestrian or even a single vehicle crash, compensation is possible. Suing bars provides compensation for victims and provides an incentive for bars to serve alcohol in a safe manner.
